We’re riding clockwise to the West of York to avoid the Marathon and get a tailwind home. The number of Groups, will depend on the number of people riding. There could be the option of a shorter or longer route too.
Setting off gently over the Millennium Bridge to head South through Bishopthorpe to Appleton Roebuck. West in to the slight breeze for Bolton Percy, up to Tadcaster, Walton and Wetherby. The shorter route goes up to North Deighton, whereas the longer route loops out to Spofforth and Little Ribston then both rejoin to Cowthorpe. Carrying on East with the wind to Tockwith, Long Marston, Rufforth. Then in to York through Acomb and back over the Millennium Bridge.
There will be an optional cafe stop on return to Cycle Heaven.

Leaving South on the A19 to Naburn and Stillingfleet. Turning West at Cawood through Ulleskelf and a brief section on the A162. Through Stutton then a gentle climb out towards Bramham, Boston Spa and Walton. The route then splits, the shorter route carries on East to Askham Richard whereas the longer loops North to Tockwith, Angram and rejoins at Askham Richard. Though Askham Bryan then up Tadcaster Road and over the Millennium Bridge.

Negotiating some back roads to get out to Acomb, carefully over the Bypass to Rufforth and Long Marston. Quieter roads from there to Tockwith and turning in to the wind for Cattal. Crossing the A59 with care for the gentle climb to Whixley. Small section on the B6265 where the routes split. Shorter route takes the turn after our usual one for Great Ouseburn. The longer route climbs up to Marton then round to Lower and Upper Dunsforth to re-join at Great Ouseburn. Both routes go over Aldwark Toll Bridge, up to Aldwark then looping round South through Tollerton for the newish road surface and the wind pushing us back home. Usual section through Overton, then wind assisted down the A19 again in to Bootham.

Then we’re heading over the newly re-opened Tadcaster bridge and carry on to Bramham. North from there to Clifford, Boston Spa and Walton. Up to Tockwith then East through, Long Marston, Hutton Wandesley, Angram, Askham Richard and Askham Bryan. In to York up Tadcaster Road for an optional cafe stop at Cycle Heaven.

Forecast at the moment to be a chilly start with 15mph wind from the North West. The route this Sunday heads in to the wind West from Tesco through Askham Bryan and Askham Richard. North through Rufforth and towards Hessay then West to Tockwith. Hopefully the wind behind us South to Thorpe Arch, Boston Spa and Clifford for a small climb at Windmill Hill. East from there to Tadcaster, walking over the bridge and carrying on to Bolton Percy and Appleton Roebuck. Back in to York through Bishopthorpe and over the Millenium bridge for an optional cafe stop at Cycle Heaven.
We’re starting from Tesco going anti clockwise to the Northwest of York. A little longer ride than normal to try stay off busy roads and ride some new ones. Heading West through Askham Bryan, Askham Richard and Hutton Wandesley. Over the road through Long Marston, Tockwith and Cowthorpe. North through Little Ribston, skirting round Knaresborough towards Farnham. Eastwards to Arkendale, Great Ouseburn and over the toll bridge through Linton on Ouse, Newton on Ouse, Beningbrough Hall and Overton. Then carefully crossing the A19 coming in to York at Bootham for an optional cafe stop for coffee & cake at Your Bike Shed.
Sunday’s club ride looks another sunny one after a chilly start. We’re heading West out through Rufforth (avoiding the Vale of York run). Then once off the main road we head through Long Marston, Tockwith and over the river to Cattal. Then onwards and upwards through Whixley for a bit on the main road, before much quieter ones through Marton Cum Grafton, to our Northern most point at Aldwark. A good descent South from there to Lower Dunsforth, Upper Dunsforth and Great Ouseburn. Heading East from there over the Toll Bridge and briskly through Linton on Ouse, Newton on Ouse and through Beningbrough Hall estate. Keeping off the main road through the back roads at Overton and a straight finish from there back to York. Optional Cafe visit afterwards for Coffee and cake. Unless anybody wants to stop off in Beningbrough.
Sundays club ride has a mix of roads. Heading West through Askham Bryan and Askham Richard. Then dodging potholes through Angram and Hutton Wandesley. Over the road to Long Marston, Tockwith and Cowthorpe. A couple of bridges and a left turn South for North Deighton and Kirk Deighton. Taking care at the busy roundabout after Wetherby heading to Collingham for a climb hiding round the corner 🙂 Some nice quiet roads from there again watching out for a couple of potholes and oncoming cars as it’s single track. Dropping down in to Bramham for another short sharp climb continuing East. A nice sprint section down in to Tadcaster, taking care over the new footbridge. A right turn for Oxton and Bolton Percy, then back in to York through Colton and Copmanthorpe. Optional Cafe visit afterwards for Coffee and cake.
Sundays ride takes us on familiar roads to the West of York and then some new ones. Heading out through Askham Bryan, Healaugh, Wighill, Thorpe Arch, and Boston Spa. New roads and a steady climb to Collingham, Linton, Sicklinghall, Barrowby and Kirkby Overblow. Then winding back towards York through Spofforth, North Deighton, Cowthorpe, Tockwith, Long Marston and Rufforth. Stop at a cafe for coffee & cake afterwards.
