Say hello to Sam

Say hello to Sam! She’s passionate about cycling in every form and embodies everything the Rouleurs stand for as a Club.

Sam says:

“Hello I’m Sam. Wife, mum, data analyst and cyclist… amongst other things. If you see me riding a bike it’s likely I’ll be carrying something - most recently it was camping gear on the club’s first bike-packing trip (which was such a good laugh by the way), but often it’s the kids on the school run, and sometimes even their bikes up trail centre climbs!

As an adult I’ve been cycling for about 13 years on and off in various forms, but it wasn’t until joining the club in April ‘23 that I’ve found the consistency to ride every week, and most valuably to ride purely for my own pleasure. Thank you to everyone at the club for enabling that, especially Andrew Evans who was really welcoming in my first few months.

Previously from Huddersfield, cycling was part of the reason we chose to move to York and I’m so grateful that our kids are growing up with cycling as a way of life - I value this for their own health and well-being as well as for the benefit of our planet. It’s also really important to me that they see me riding for myself (and not just dad - don’t want them getting the wrong idea!!) and the Rouleurs has enabled me to do that.

I’m getting fitter and more confident riding - it’s never (ok almost never) about going faster. I started off on a few 30 club rides and gradually did more 40 socials, I’ve also had a go at a few 40 steadies and even a 60 which I wouldn’t have imagined on that first ever club ride back in March 23. Next month I’m hoping to complete the femme sportive which will be my longest ride ever and first century!”
